Lydia was born on 27/3/1878 in Königsberg. She was the daughter of Johann Stacklies and Anna Mastholat.
Lydia never met Carl Friedrich Scheffler until their weddiIng day.
They corresponded via letters until they decided to get married. (Their letters were published in 1972 in a book titled "Liewe Lydia, Liewe Fritz".
She married Carl Friedrich Scheffler (son of Carl & Charlotte Scheffler) in Cape Town on 29 September 1906 (the day she arrived in South Africa). Lydia was born on 27/3/1878 in Königsberg.
With the onset of the First World War her husband, Carl Friedrich, was arrested and moved to a concentration camp (given his German heritage), but enroute to the concentration camp the order to placehim in the concentration camp was rescinded.
This stressful time caused Lydia to become seriously ill and could have contributed to the onset of Parkinson's disease, from which she continued to suffer for the next 23 years.
Lydia passed away on 22/10/1937.
